For those of you who haven’t heard, you are now able to opt-in for beta testing of Star Wars: The Old Republic. The official site was down for most of yesterday when it was announced, but it seems to be more stable now. To sign up, you have to register for the official community, and then proceed to the My Account section of the site. From there, you will have to enter information like your name and address, and then have their site scan your system for what type of hardware and operating system you are on. Also note that the system scan only works under Firefox and Internet Explorer, as I found out when I tried to sign up using Chrome yesterday when the site was still getting hammered, and by the time I tried it again using Firefox, the site was back to being down.

If you read my review of The Siege of Spinner Cay, you know I basically said that it wasn’t as good as Chapter 1. Well if you are looking for a one-liner box quote to decide if this chapter is an improvement, here it is – Lair of the Leviathan is the best chapter yet. Read more »

With the third chapter of Tales of Monkey Island, Lair of the Leviathan, out in less than a week, Telltale has treated us to three new screenshots from the game, as well as a new gameplay trailer. As a warning, the video contains a full scene from the game, so if you are looking to be completely spoiler free, hold off on this one until you come across it in-game next week.

LucasForums user Guy.brush has put together this amazing video of scenes from Monkey Island 2 in scurvy-inducing 3D running on CryEngine. The result is amazing, with real-time 3D environments made from projecting the original concept art onto a 3D background, and the actual environments made using Cryengine Sandbox editor. Its certainly different seeing Monkey Island environments being traversed in first-person perspective but is done so incredibly well.
Guy.brush teases that he may eventually release this as a mod with some simple gameplay. Hopefully he can find a model to use in place of Nomad from Crysis, but in the meantime we see a cameo from Guybrush from The Secret of Monkey Island.

As if I don’t spend my money on enough video game-related things, Telltale have added posters of Steve Purcell’s cover art painting for sale at the Telltale Store. If that’s not enough, you can get one signed for only $5 more than the standard poster price – $14.95 unsigned, $19.95 signed.
You might notice that the poster is listed as backordered, but we are assured that just means they have not reached the warehouse yet – they’re not out of stock quite yet! Jump on this great offer while you can.
